Llanwenarth Baptist Chapel is situated in the centre of the village of Govilon. Founded in 1652, it is the oldest surviving Baptist fellowship in Wales. The church has gathered for worship on the current site since 1696, with parts of the present building dating back to that first chapel. The long history of this fellowship has been recorded in a book produced for our 350th Anniversary in 2002.
The fellowship is very active, with a variety of mid-week groups (see below). On Sunday about 80 adults and children meet for morning worship and Sunday School. The regular evening service is smaller and more traditional.
There is a fortnightly Bible Study on Monday evenings, giving an opportunity to explore the themes of the previous Sunday's sermon.
As a fellowship we are proud of our heritage, and our aim is to continue to make a difference – both through our activities within the village and our links to the wider Christian community.
